We are currently hiring a Fundraising Manager to run our Vancouver operation. The position reports to the national Fundraising Director, and is supported by a full service finance and IT department.

Responsibilities:

Overseeing the appropriate recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation to insure standards are achieved and contracts completed with an agreed upon timeline.
Overseeing staff scheduling, turf management and ensuring that all staff are actively fundraising to the levels specified in their job descriptions.
Coordinating the efforts of Program Manager`s, Supervisors, Trainers and admin. staff thru regular meetings and honest open communication.
Fostering an environment that is professional, honest, effective and respectful.
Ensuring that all donations are accurate, complete, confidential and delivered to the client in the appropriate manner.
Obtaining permits and licenses where necessary from the respective municipal authorities and ensuring good working relations within the community.

Environmental Defense Fund is currently hiring a Director of Economic Research to serve in a key leadership and research role within EDF’s Ocean Economics team in San Francisco. The Director will work with four other team members to create economic models aimed at innovating new ways to manage and sustain world fisheries. The Director will be responsible for convening the field’s leading experts around cross-cutting, leading edge research efforts. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a dynamic, multidisciplinary thinker eager to apply economic skills to addressing the problem of unsustainable fishing.

Responsibilities

Serve as the lead researcher and convener for the Ocean Economics team, working closely with the Managing Director and other team members
Design and manage research programs to advance the understanding of incentive-based fisheries management
Convene the world’s leading academics, economists, investment experts and others to conduct long-term, in-depth analyses on topics such as:
- Allocation of private shares of public goods
- Collateralizing private ownership of fisheries
- Creative financing of incentive-based fisheries management, monitoring and buy-outs of fisheries
- 2nd generation of market-based fisheries management tools
- Community impacts of fisheries management transitions
Synthesize information from parallel fields (agricultural loans, stock-option pool allocation, cap-and-trade systems, environmental credit markets, land trusts, wetlands mitigation banks) to inform development of incentive-based fisheries management
Research, analyze, and report on existing market-based conservation strategies
Conduct in-depth literature reviews, direct maintenance of literature databases, and stay current with research developments in economics, finance, resource economics and related fields
Write white papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Create reports and analyses that lay the groundwork for financial deals to buy out fisheries and improve their economic efficiency and conservation status

Qualifications

M.S. or Ph.D. in resource economics, finance, economic modeling or other related academic disciplines
5+ years experience in research roles with increasing responsibility and independence
Strong skills in mathematics, modeling and synthetic analysis
Skilled at identifying academic excellence and persuading discipline leaders to participate in new projects

Responsibilities

Serve as the lead analyst and model designer for the Ocean Economics team, working closely with the Managing Director and other team members
Identify, design and conduct in-depth, project-specific analyses to support implementation of market-based incentives for fisheries management
Work closely with fishers, government officials, academics, Ocean Economics staff and EDF regional staff to:
- Model workable scenarios that balance profit and conservation

Ability to model economic trade-offs, while identifying and implementing practical solutions to real-life problems

Office Manager

The Rainforest Solutions Project (RSP) is a joint initiative of Greenpeace, ForestEthics and Sierra Club BC and is a project of the Sage Centre. We promote conservation options and economic alternatives to industrial logging on British Columbia's central coast, north coast, and Haida Gwaii (the Great Bear Rainforest). RSP is governed by a steering committee of campaigners from each of the above groups.

The Office Manager provides administrative and logistical support for the small number of RSP staff and the wider family of RSP environmental partners' staff. This full time position reports to the Project Director (PD).

Responsibilities

Managing the RSP office infrastructure, including computing and communications systems, databases and libraries.
Under direction of the PD and with assistance from the Sage Centre, assist with financial management of RSP, including budget management, financial tracking, reporting, petty cash and expense reports.
Assist PD with HR administrative work issues (vacation tracking, benefits questions, etc).
Assist with internal communications among RSP staff, including coordination of conference calls, periodic team meetings.
Managing travel, event and logistics planning.
Support communications among environmental partners working with RSP.
General office reception duties.
Preparing correspondence and copying, faxing and printing documents.
Coordinating travel arrangements for staff members engaged in RSP work as required.
Assist the PD with planning and coordination of monthly Program Managers' meetings.
Assist RSP staff with specific research tasks.
Maintenance of office supplies; furniture, computer hardware/software.
Taking meeting minutes where necessary.
Various communications tasks: distributing communications materials and reports,directing media enquires to steering committee or PD, fact-checking, editing of RSP communications documents when necessary, responding to or delegating responses to ‘mail@rainforestsolutions.org'.
Managing RSP conference line, including use by RSP ENGOs.
