 <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;img class=&quot;noborder&quot; style=&quot;float: right;&quot; src=&quot;/sites/default/files/carbontalks.png&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; width=&quot;300&quot; height=&quot;124&quot; /&gt;Term:                1 year&lt;br /&gt;Location:         SFU Harbour Centre Campus (3rd Floor – 515 West Hastings)&lt;br /&gt;Start date:        March 12, 2012&lt;br /&gt;Time:                Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Communications and Project Officer, Carbon Talks&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Carbon Talks, is a new initiative of the Simon Fraser University Centre for Dialogue, the Beedie Graduate School of Business, the School for Public Policy and the School for International Studies, focused on increasing Canada’s global competitiveness by moving to a low carbon economy.  The Centre seeks a Communications and Project Officer to work as part of the project team based at the SFU Centre for Dialogue.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong research and organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.  We seek candidates with strong business acumen, computer skills, a keen interest in climate change issues and a desire to work in a dynamic learning environment.  Work experience in Calgary would be an asset.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Position Description&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Communications and Project Officer plays a key role in the project team.  S/he reports to the Executive Director and provides assistance in developing content for the website and blog, organizing, delivering and reporting on dialogues, outreach events and presentations, and marketing Carbon Talks to the broader community.    &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Specific duties include:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Developing engaging content for the website and print material&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Interviewing and writing innovator profiles for the website&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Researching links and posting them&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Preparing blog posts&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Updating web content to ensure it is current&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Adding photographs to the Flickr pool&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Assisting in developing articles for publication in the media&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Researching and Developing articles publication online or in the mainstream press&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Work with Carbon Talks staff to design, deliver and market community dialogues – which includes:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;preparing promotional materials;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;profiling events to key target audiences using a variety of online media tools;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;engaging the university and broader community in the sessions; and,&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;providing logistical support in hosting and audio-recording sessions&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Support Carbon Talks staff in delivering invitational dialogues by assisting in&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;preparing background resource packages;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;assisting with logistics;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;taking notes and report writing;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;-Maintaining good working relationships with the project team and assisting with administrative duties as necessary&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and a 200 word response to the following question:  What role can municipal governments play in reducing green house gases?  Interested applicants should apply to Elodie Jacquet at &lt;a href=&quot;mailto:dial@sfu.ca&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;&gt;dial@sfu.ca&lt;/a&gt;.
