The .eco System

Renewal Partners is pleased to announce that we, along with WWF International, David Suzuki Foundation, Verité, Pax World, ISEAL, and an international group of advisors are collaborating on a bid for the .eco Internet extension.

The team and bid are coordinated by the Vancouver based company Big Room Inc. Big Room will spend the next year running a global consultation and technical development process to determine how best to run .eco.

Big Room's goal is to create a system - known as the .eco system - that will use .eco domain names to display current, detailed eco-information to anyone with a browser, anytime they need it, anywhere on the planet.

This system will create a massive, open database of comparable environmental and social information on companies, products and individuals. Once up and running, it will dramatically improve eco-transparency and accountability and help consumers easily identify more eco-friendly companies, products and services.

The first consultation is June 25th in Sydney, Australia. Consultations will also take place in Sao Paulo, Johannesburg, Mälmo, Geneva, Washington DC, and Seoul during 2009.
