Tides Canada names Jodi White Board Chair

VANCOUVER — Jodi White, one of Canada’s leading public policy thinkers, has been appointed Board Chair of Tides Canada, a national and non-partisan charity committed to innovative solutions to benefit Canadian society and the environment.

Named one of Canada’s 100 most influential women, White brings national and international expertise in public policy and business to Tides Canada.

Tides Canada is a national force finding solutions to Canada’s pressing environmental and social issues,” said White. “I look forward to continuing the work of past chair Alan Broadbent to bring together a broad spectrum of Canadians to find ideas benefiting society, the environment and our economy.”

White started her career as a CBC journalist, and then moved on to leadership roles in politics, business and public policy. She was chief of staff to Prime Minister Kim Campbell and to Foreign Minister Joe Clark. She also was president and CEO of the Public Policy Forum and a vice president of Imasco.

“Jodi’s expertise and broad network is a perfect fit with Tides Canada,” said Ross McMillan, President and CEO of Tides Canada. “She will help us engage Canadians who are looking for innovative solutions in areas like energy, forest and water conservation, the Arctic and sustainable urban and food systems.”

Tides Canada is involved in major initiatives across Canada. It supports leading non-profits, First Nations, forest companies, and governments implementing the Great Bear Rainforest agreements and the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement. Tides Canada is also at the cutting edge of sustainable approaches to salmon aquaculture, marine planning and bringing the voice of civil society to discussions about the future of the energy sector.

Founded in 2000, Tides Canada is the country’s largest public foundation dedicated to the environment and social justice. It supports, convenes and directly funds hundreds of initiatives annually, from neighbourhood-scale social programs to national conservation efforts. The organization’s operating charity is home to 40 of Canada’s leading social change initiatives.
