Tides Canada is comprised of two associated philanthropic organizations – Tides Canada Foundation and Tides Canada Initiatives Society. Tides Canada Foundation, established in 2000, is a national public foundation focused on environmental and social justice issues. The Foundation supports a range of sector participants, including large international and national institutions, NGOs, operating charities, private family foundations, corporate donors, individual philanthropists and social entrepreneurs. Tides Canada Initiatives Society is a growing operating charity that houses and supports over 40 social and environmental projects across the country.
We currently have a permanent, full-time opening at our Vancouver/Gastown office for a junior to intermediate Accounts Payables person with a passion for excellent customer service to be the professional initial point of contact for accounts payables related enquiries, and to perform transactional analysis and vendor related support. Reporting to the AP Supervisor/Senior Accountant, the duties of this position will include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Daily processing of accounts payables cycle including review of invoices and expense reports for policy compliance and proper authorization
- Processing of weekly cheque run including monitoring project cash flow balances, processing wire payments, online payments and USD cheques
- Regularly communicating with Project Directors and Project staff regarding adherence to policy and procedure relating to submission of invoices and expense reports
- Communicating with Project Specialists and Finance Leads to ensure appropriate policy and procedures are in place; documenting policies and procedures when necessary
- Responding to vendor and internal queries, ranging from urgent to casual; investigating and resolving issues, while exercising considerable judgment and tact
- Assisting with contract management, including monitoring of contract balances and terms
- Processing and reconciling grant payments through payables module and general journal
- Maintaining accounts payables records, both physical and electronic files
- Managing corporate purchasing card program, including paying monthly account and reconciling to cardholder monthly statements
- Providing vacation and absence coverage for accounts payables colleague(s)
- Assisting with year end accounts payables working papers
Job Requirements
- Completion of, or enrollment in, post-secondary accounting courses
- One to two years related general accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV or other CRM or donor database an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to communicate effectively via phone and email with both outside contacts and internal staff
- Excellent time-management skills and the ability to meet regular daily, monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong computer literacy and spreadsheet skills
- Client and service-oriented approach
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Basic understanding of non-profit sector accounting an asset
- Alignment with the goals and values of Tides Canada an asset
