BC Social Venture Partners (BC SVP) is a network for business leaders who care about their communities.

BC SVP seeks to catalyze significant, long-term positive social change by encouraging individuals to be well informed, effective and engaged philanthropists, and by investing time, expertise and money in innovative non-profit organizations. A significant component of BC SVP’s dual mission is to promote learning about the community and philanthropy.

Through SVP, members or “Partners” use their business expertise to take a strategic role in addressing our community’s challenges and focus on building the long-term success of nonprofits in the metropolitan Vancouver area. We take an innovative approach to philanthropy, leveraging our dollars, networks, and professional skills to support our Grantees. We have found that this "time plus money" approach helps our Grantees increase their capacity to deliver positive social impact. While we have a broad interest in groups tackling social problems in new and creative ways, our support is focused on Grantees that are building a brighter future for children and youth, and their families.

We are seeking a seasoned Executive Director to ensure the success of the organization and work effectively with a volunteer Board which is comprised of many business leaders. This individual will embody the philosophy and attributes of our sector - leadership, a sense of urgency, quality, completeness and ownership; exceptional communication skills, transparency, and attention to detail. In return, this person will have an opportunity to work with a remarkable team of people, and the deep rewards of aiding in an area of critical social need.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director will work closely with the BC SVP Board and Committees to develop and implement the vision for the organization of SVP by providing leadership and operational execution in the following ways:
  • Actively engage all BC SVP Partners to the work and success of BC SVP and its Grantees

  • Be a leader within the philanthropic and non-profit community
  • Manage and improve the organization in an efficient, responsive and effective manner

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will reflect the passion and commitment to excellence in philanthropy that SVP promotes. As a strong voice for the organization, the ideal candidate will understand and promote this new philanthropic movement to Partners, Grantees and the community. Required skills include:
  • A minimum of 10 years progressively responsible experience in business or nonprofit arena.
  • Experience with and passion for philanthropy and the nonprofit community
  • Organizational development expertise, particularly volunteer organizations
  • Experience with a broad range of constituents

  • Ability to bridge management concepts from the for-profit sector to the nonprofit sector
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort with a fast paced, tight operation, and managing multiple priorities
