The Sierra Club of BC is a non-profit environmental organization based in Victoria B.C. We are seeking a Bookkeeper to provide financial assistance to the organization’s financial operations. This is an ongoing, full-time position in the organization and requires working with the Finance Manager to help maintain and improve financial and reporting systems. The successful candidate will be a skilled individual with a background in finance (preferably in the not-for-profit sector), committed to the organization’s purpose and willing to work in a busy environment with other staff members and contractors.

Job Duties: Duties may include
• Accounts payable & receivable, project coding of expenses
• Banking
• Simply Accounting and Quick Books program knowledge
• Payroll preparation and input
• Knowledge of fund accounting beneficial
• Bank & VISA monthly reconciliations
• Help staff understand the accounts payable pertaining to their budgets
• Help Finance Manager with year end closing
• Maintain extended benefits plan
Required Qualifications:
Technical
• Familiarity and education with general book-keeping / accounting principles
• Minimum 2 years experience bookkeeping, preferably with a non-profit
• Experience with accounting software, preferably Simply Accounting and Quick Books
• Demonstrated computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software for word processing, and email management, strong skills with Excel
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Education
The successful candidate will have formal training in bookkeeping and/or business administration.
