Reporting to the Board of Directors, the focus of the business manager's job is to improve the commercial performance of the store by monitoring the finances, carrying out the marketing strategy, finding new ways to market the floral products, improving sales, and developing retail sales related partnerships.
Please note that this is a new position and the job description is evolving.
Responsibilities:
Marketing and Sales
Establish, monitor, and manage the implementation of the newly developed marketing strategy this will include, among other things:
Work with the Just Beginnings Flowers team to increase sales and ensure efficiency; and
Maintain awareness of market trends in the floral industry, understand forthcoming customer initiatives, and monitor what local competitors are doing.
Business Operations
Establish, monitor, and manage an inventory control system;
Establish an Operations Manual;
Analyze sales figures and forecast future sales volumes to maximize profits;
Analyze and interpret trends to facilitate planning;
Identify and/or resolve urgent issues;
Initiate changes to improve profitability; and
Analyze and improve the information technology needs of the flower shop.
Financial Management
Liaise with bookkeeper to monitor financial reporting;
Monitor the financial situation of the store at all times;
Do financial projections on a regular basis;
Alert Board immediately of current or anticipated financial challenges; and
Make recommendations to Board concerning finance related issues.
Public Relations
Develop relationships with potential partners;, organizations and individuals that would support the success of the business in order to advance the social objectives of the Society;
Promote the flower shop through developing relationships with newspapers and the community in general.
Board Relations
Attend all Board meetings and any other meetings required by the Board, and
Update the Board on the business performance, the financial position, new initiatives and other pertinent issues.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required
Highly motivated, detail oriented, entrepreneurial, self starter ;
Training, and demonstrated success, with marketing and sales in a retail environment
understanding of, and experience with, the information technology necessary for the efficient operation of a retail store ;
Experience with inventory management ;
Budgeting and financial management skills and experience;
Training and experience with human resource management (paid and volunteer);
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Experience with public relations and community partnership development;
Leadership skills;
Experience in the floral industry would be an asset but is not a requirement ;
Experience with the challenges and complexities of operating a social enterprise would be an asset ;
A passion for making a small social enterprise into a flourishing successful business is essential.
Employment Details
This is a full time position
The probationary period is six months with and interim performance appraisal after 3 months.
There are no benefits associated with this position other than CPP and EI.
The position requires the use of the person’s own vehicle.
