Tides Canada Foundation, established in 2000, is a national public foundation focused on environmental and social justice issues. The Foundation supports a range of sector participants, including large international and national institutions, NGOs, operating charities, private family foundations, corporate donors, individual philanthropists and social entrepreneurs. Tides Canada Initiatives Society is a growing operating charity that houses and supports over 40 social and environmental projects across the country.

Tides Canada is seeking a full-time Communications and Marketing Manager for our Vancouver office to develop and implement internal and external communications and marketing plans for Tides Canada. The selected candidate will be a creative communications management generalist with amazing writing skills and a
passion for what we do.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
To spearhead the development, execution and evaluation of key external communications plans in support of Tides Canada’s strategic direction and business plan, the Communications and Marketing Manager will:

  • Develop annual and issue specific marketing and communications plans
  • Act as Tides Canada’s Chief Scribe, writing a wide range of communications and marketing materials
  • Leverage and integrate social media into broader communications and marketing plans
  • Organize and manage events ranging from 50 - 500 people, including managing timelines, vendor relations, event logistics, marketing and advertising, budget management, media relations and volunteer management

Job Requirements
The successful candidate will be a team player with drive, dedication, a “whatever it takes to get the job done” approach and the ability to continually improve our marketing, communications and branding initiatives. Candidates with the following skills and experience are encouraged to apply:

  • Post-secondary degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or another related field 5-7 years of related experience (2-3 years of which in communications management), ideally gained in the not-for-profit sector, or within an advertising, public relations, corporate communications or marketing communications role
  • Exceptional senior-level writing skills are required including previous experience in developing annual reports, marketing materials, executive speeches, news releases and strategic communications plans
  • Demonstrated experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector, across the communications and marketing mix including social media and emerging electronic media platforms
  • Demonstrated success with media and public relations
  •  Experience developing work plans and budgets
  • Experience supervising a small team of staff or volunteers would be beneficial
  • Experience planning and executing corporate events such as donor recognition events, AGMs, etc.
  • Experience with online marketing/CRM software would be a plus (i.e. Campaign Monitor, Google Analytics, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and comfortable working in a deadline-oriented environment while flexible and responsive to changing needs
  • Alignment with the goals and values of Tides Canada
