SPARC BC (Social Planning and Research Council) is seeking a new Executive Director who has the vision and management skills to lead one of Canada’s foremost social development organizations. SPARC BC is a non-profit society, federally registered charity, and a provincial organization with over 14,000 members. The organization works with BC communities to identify their social issues and work collaboratively to develop responses that improve the well-being of all.
The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of SPARC BC’s management, including strategic and operational planning, budget planning and financial management, management of human resources and labour relations, fund development, and overseeing the social enterprises operated by SPARC BC. The ED also supports the Board in its governance duties, and ensures that the organization is efficient, effective, and accountable to the Board’s policy directives.
SPARC BC wants the new Executive Director to be someone recognized for leadership and strategic vision, with the ability to foster teamwork to achieve measurable results through excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Applicants must have a relevant post-graduate degree as well as experience in the senior management of a not for profit organization. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of social issues, and have experience with research and advocacy. Knowledge of Board governance and the proven ability to facilitate and appropriately support volunteer Board of Directors is also required.
Applicants should have experience in fund development, superior communications and presentation skills, experience in labour relations, and an effective and positive management style. The new Executive Director should be articulate, adaptable, credible and confident, with the ability to represent SPARC BC effectively in stakeholder relationships with government, funders, the social development community, organization members and the public. Knowledge of social enterprise and experience in consulting services will be an asset.
