In keeping with the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education’s (DLC) mission, business plans and organization policies, the General Manager is responsible, as a leader and manager, for the effective administration and operation of the DLC. Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager is responsible for operational, financial, human resource and facilities planning and management.

In this fulltime staff position, the General Manager will work closely and collaboratively with the CEO and other staff in combining the goals and requirements of the DLC Business Plan and operations with financial resources, human resources and organizational capacities in order to create effective and efficient organizational performance. Building on existing structures and processes the General Manager will develop and manage policies and procedures that will
guide effective practice, reflect B.C. Employment Standards, Worksafe and other regulatory requirements, and fulfill the CCRA requirements of a registered charity.


Duties and Responsibilities


Operations

  • Ensure efficient and effective administrative and operational processes and structures
  • Supervise staff/volunteers providing reception services, clerical and administrative support, and data management
  • Plan and coordinate information technology systems, equipment, software, databases
  • Coordinate and manage Speakers Series event management team

Finance

  • Collaborate with CEO, Director of Development, staff and consultants in the development and management of budgets
  • Manage structures and processes which comply with GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) and CCRA requirements
  • Work closely with contracted accounting/bookkeeping services to ensure timely administration of funds, accounts payable/receivable, production of reports, budget implementation and annual audit requirements
  • Provide quarterly and annual reports to the DLC Audit and Finance Committee and DLC Board

Human Resources

  • Collaborate with the CEO in further developing policies, structures and processes for hiring, supervision, professional growth and building capacity of employees, contractors and volunteers
  • Develop and manage employment contracts and independent contractor agreements
  • Manage benefits plan and payroll in consultation with the bookkeeping service
  • Supervise and support the Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting, orienting and supporting volunteers

Facilities

  • Manage lease; liaise with property manager/landlord and respective staff
  • Manage rentals; subleases of space as appropriate
  • Plan and manage assignment of work spaces and acquisition of furniture and equipment

Qualifications

  • 7 – 10 years’ relevant experience including work in the not-for-profit sector and at least 3 years’ experience in a management role
  • Expertise and successful experience in financial, human resource, operations and facilities management
  • Knowledge and demonstrated success in fulfilling CCRA requirements including requirements related to registered charities, BC Employment Standards and Worksafe
  • Superior knowledge and experience of accounting principles and practices, budget development and monitoring, etc.
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (eg: Business, Administration, Commerce, etc.)
  • Satisfactory criminal record and credit check
