Since 2000, ForestEthics has played a leadership role in defining sustainable environmental practices for corporations and industry and has stopped the logging of more than 65 million acres of Endangered Forests in Canada and Chile.
ForestEthics flagship public campaigns against industry giants Staples, Office Depot and Victoria's Secret have resulted in dramatic new industry standards, as have the environmental commitments it has procured from some of the largest corporations on the planet, including Staples, Home Depot and Dell computers.
We are looking for a Strategic communications officer in a consulting or staff position for 3-5 days/week.
The strategic communications officer must have 3-5 years of experience doing media work, a portfolio of nationally-placed stories, and experience doing issue-based communications strategy. She or he must be a clear and compelling communicator able to condense mass quantities of information into a concise message, highly solutions-oriented, organized, and interested in working collaboratively in a team environment. S/he could eventually take on management of two to three staff. This position will work very closely with the communications director and our campaigners to establish strategic direction for our Canadian campaigns.
This person must to love doing issue-based media outreach and must thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic communications planning and implementation for all Canadian campaigns.
- Develop primary messages and creating communications plans for each campaign.
- Monitor media at all levels from local to international and take advantage of opportunities to place our messages and advance campaign goals, including creating materials and website content in response to breaking stories.
- Create and maintain media lists.
- Pitch and develop pitches for campaigners.
- Direct, edit and distribute all Canadian press releases and advisories, as well as make advance and follow-up calls.
- Advise on web content as well as materials for Canadian campaigns.
- Write basic campaign materials.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years experience developing strategic communications campaigns for issues (experience in corporate campaigns or electoral campaigns a plus).
- Excellent writing skills.
- Excellent proofreading skills.
- Ability to prioritize.
