WHEN DISASTER STRIKES
The show: When Disaster Strikes is a documentary series following a team of Canadian first responders through their initial assessment of humanitarian needs in the wake of a major natural disaster.
The website: Launching in mid-to-late 2010, the website will be a showcase for the program, but also a go-to educational resource for anyone asking: what’s it like to work in the world of humanitarian aid?
Our needs: the site will incorporate video, blogging, maps, photos and written content. We need great design incorporating Web 2.0 principles on both the front and back end. The site will also include a simple but beautiful flash-based game that demonstrates the choices and consequences humanitarian professionals face in their work.
We’re open to using a single vendor for front-end, back-end and the game, or splitting them up by speciality. We’re looking for recommendations for both options – must be Ontario-based due to labour tax-credit needs.
The audience: Initially, students, professionals and casual visitors interested in the world of humanitarian aid and the specific “disaster” featured in the series. After the show broadcasts (early 2011) we reach out to TV audiences and fans of the series.
Timeline: need partner(s) in place for October 1 2009 Bell New Media fund development application deadline. Immediate responses appreciated!
