Featured play BIG Stories

Our lead story comes from visionary activist Joshua Mailman who has played BIG integrating money, meaning and progressive social change around the world for over thirty years. A legendary organizer, Josh founded the Threshold Foundation, a national network of philanthropists; the Social Venture Network U.S., Europe, and Asia, an international network of socially driven businesspeople; and co- founded Business for Social Responsibility and Grameen Phone, Bangladesh among others.

Josh’s story at play BIG is bound to inform, inspire and challenge. Click to learn more about Josh Mailman.

Sallie Calhoun is a software and ranchland pioneer. An engineer by training, she spent twenty-five years growing a software company with her husband which they sold in 2000. Then they did the craziest thing they'd ever done: they purchased a 7600 acre ranch south of San Jose, Ca. Sallie will share her story-in-progress including how she is activating her portfolio in service of her passion for grasslands and soil.  Click to learn more about Sallie Calhoun.
What to Expect

In an intimate setting of 15-20 attendees, participants’ own stories, aspirations and insights are at the core of the play BIG experience. A team of supportive and experienced social investment experts, strategic thinkers and financial advisors are also an essential part of the convening. Through creative self-reflection, strategic planning sessions, case studies and one-on-one consultations, attendees explore questions of vision and mission as well as the nuts and bolts of activating wealth to stimulate social and environmental change.

Who Should Attend

play BIG is designed for people with discretionary capital of $15 million or more who are seeking ever greater alignment of their money as a expression of their values and vision for an equitable and ecologically sustainable society. We welcome newcomers and play BIG alumni, seasoned investors and philanthropists as well as beginners to this unique gathering. Please spread the word to those for whom play BIG might be a fit.
